What is lighting ergonomics and why is it important?

Briefly, lighting ergonomics can be described as lighting in relation to the work environment. How does the lighting affect the work environment, what effect does it have on our work tasks, and above all what impact does it have on our wellbeing? This is where it becomes clear that ergonomics does not only include the body’s movement, but also the sight of the eyes, which in turn can affect other parts of the body. And therefore, a holistic approach to ergonomics becomes even more crucial. If the lighting is not good enough or adapted to the task, it may result in headache or body tension for the individual. If, on the other hand, the lighting is qualitative and well planned, we can create the right conditions for the individual’s wellbeing. At the same time, the workplace and environment becomes more stimulating. 

Basic requirements for qualitative lighting: 

• the right light at the right place 
• even light on the work surface 
• avoid blinding lights
• avoid large contrasts between the work surface and the rest of the environment
